Learning and sharing my knowledge about what to buy has been in my blood for as long as I can remember. When I was nine years old, I sat on my grandmother's knee, and lectured her friends and neighbors about laundry detergent. Back then, the issue was phosphates. I explained to them why phosphates were bad for the environment, and which were the best phosphate-free detergents. As a teenager, I went to the public library to read Consumer Reports. I got a B.S. in Biology from Yale University, managed a large travel agency, then spent ten years writing and editing OUT & ABOUT, providing decision-empowering information about travel to women and men all over the world. And for more than a decade, I've been in the top ten percent of Avon representatives nationwide -- a career that started with a simple search for the best daily face moisturizer.

I love a bargain. But even more, I love value: maximizing the returns on my shopping dollars, and helping others do the same. From luxury to budget: Neiman Marcus to the 99¢ store, I shop everywhere, but mostly on the web, where I spend hours comparison shopping, researching and using products, reporting my findings here.

Smarter shopping improves our lives by making our bodies and environments healthier, by making the things we have to do easier, and making the things we want to do more accessible, and conserving time and money, two things that most of us never have enough of.
