My college buddy David Pogue wrote about this in today's New York Times. For those of you... um, us too lazy to reach down and flip the switch on our surge protectors to shut off our external hard drives, cable modems, printers and whatever else, this is the perfect solution. Would this thing be appropriate for an office machine with no attached external devices except the monitor? Most monitors already have energy-saving states, don't they? Or would it be better to turn off power on them completely with this device? I definitely need one for my office machine, with external hard drive, scanner, etc. But what about for office machines with few peripherals?
